On this, the 476th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast, we talk about the Cubs series win over the Reds in Cincinnati.  Although the Cubs took the series and moved to the top of the NL Central standings, the team still isn't clicking on all cylinders.  In this series, the starting pitching looked shaky, and the Cubs were inexplicably unable to destroy Bronson Arroyo pitches.

The Cubs now head a little further east to Pittsburgh for a three-game series with the Pirates.

We share a few scary stats and a couple of internet muscle flexes.

Thanks for downloading the 475th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast.  On this episode, we talk about the Cubs series win over the Brewers.  While the Cubs took 2 of the 3 games, the series could have easily gone the other way, and the Cubs could have pretty easily been swept.

We share some of our thoughts on the series and where the Cubs are right now, as a squad.  We explain that the areas of concern are some of the easiest things to fix with a baseball team.

Andy previews the upcoming series with the NL Central Division leading Cincinnati Reds, Corey and Kurt share a couple of scary stats and we read some internet muscle flexes.

At the end of the episode, Tawny and Beth recap the last few weeks of David Ross' performances on Dancing with the Stars.

Thanks for downloading the 474th episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast.  The Cubs were just swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates and we break down this somewhat frustrating series.  Corey made his first trip to Wrigley in the 2017 season and talks about some of the Wrigley renovations that happened over the off-season, mainly the addition of the plaza and the relocation of the bullpens.

Then we get into the games.  The Cubs had plenty of opportunities to win the first two games of this series.  This should feel very familiar to Cubs fans.  Last year, before the All-Star break, the Cubs were scuffling.  The offense wasn't producing and the bullpen had some glaring issues.  Is the bullpen as unreliable as it feels right now?  Or are they not being given much breathing room by the offense?  We share our thoughts on the situation.

Andy previews the upcoming series with the Brewers, Kurt shares a scary stat, and we read some internet muscle flexes.

Flags fly forever.

And the Cubs have a really nice new flag to fly over Wrigley Field.  On this, the 473rd episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast, we talk about the ceremonies that took place this week at Wrigley Field.  The banners have been raised and the rings have been distributed.

We also get into the series vs. the Dodgers.  The Cubs beat the Dodgers 2 games to 1 and have a 6-3 record on the season.

Andy previews the upcoming series with the Pirates, Kurt shares a scary stat, we talk a lot about Bronson Arroyo, and we read some internet muscle flexes.

Thanks for downloading the 472nd episode of The Ivy Envy Podcast.  On this episode, we talk about the last game of the Cardinals series and the series with the Brewers in Milwaukee.  The Cubs won both series, 2 games to 1 and we've seen some really encouraging things from the team so far.  This episode, we focus more on the offense:

  • Kris Brant started the season 1-17 in the first four games.  He snapped out of that quickly and went 6-10 in the last two games of the Brewers series.
  • Jason Heyward is batting .333!  He has a hit in every game and appears to be getting really solid contact.  Maybe even more impressive is the fact he's only struck out once in 23 plate appearances in the first six games of the season.  f
  • Kurt talks about Kyle Schwarber in the lead-off spot and points to his high pitches per plate appearance.
  • We talk about the Baez/Heyward collision and while we're relieved nobody was injured, it's impressive to see the team playing just as hard as they did in 2016 when some fans expected a letdown in intensity.

Andy previews the upcoming series with the Dodgers, including all of the festivities around celebrating the 2016 season.

Kurt shares an ex-Cub Scary Stat of the Week and we read several internet muscle flexes.
